BOOKS OF BIRD PHOTOGRAPHS AVAILABLE

Here are my two books of bird photographs, specifically the birds of Senegal, West Africa, in full color. I took those pictures while my wife and I were posted there from 2001-2008. You can purchase any of these books of African birds by ordering them directly from the publisher: simply click on the relevant book covers below. The two volumes are also available in digital format for a significantly reduced price. Both books are bilingual (English/French) for text and photo captions. Every bird is identified in both languages as well as by their scientific name in Latin down to the subspecies.

CONFERENCES

I have given a number of conferences (Powerpoint (C) presentations) of overseas travel illustrating the places we have gone and wildlife we have photographed. I am available to present those in person in either English of French.  Interested groups should communicate with me through the “contact us” page.

conference poster north etiopia
THE GREAT HISTORIC ROUTE OF ETHIOPIA.  The northern region of Ethiopia is a historian’s delight. Harking back to the biblical times when the Queen of Sheba reigned over Axum, then later to the very early Christian era during which King Lalibella directed the construction of rock-hewn churches. We also visit the castles of Gondar built by the emperors of a later dynasty. We also mingle with the endemic Gelada Baboons at 4 000 m of altitude in the Simien Mountains.

MAURITANIA: NOUAKSHOTT, THE ADRAR DESERT AND BANC D’ARGUIN NATURAL PARC.  Gilles and Yvette Forget spent ten days around Christmas of 2007 in the Desert of Mauritania where they visited the ancient sand-choked cities of Chinguetti and Ouadane, stopping on the way to drink mint tea with desert dwellers. Later, they went on to visit the famous Banc d’Arguin bird sanctuary for some bird photography.
conference rajastan poster
RAJASTAN SUMMER OF 2007. Rajastan is a northern province of India, rich in history and magnificent fortress cities: Jaisalmeer, Jaipur, Jodhpur and the temples of Udaipur. Yvette and Gilles Forget travelled by car, by train and by plane in the course of two weeks to learn more about the Rajastani people, their history and the wildlife of that region.
conference dogon country poster
MALI – DOGON COUNTRY, MOPTI, DJENNE, TIMBUKTU. The Dogon people have been established in Bandiagara cliffs of Mali for seven centuries. Their villages are often fortified or situated in difficult to reach mountainous areas. Their culture is very different from that of neighbouring people. Visiting them means a lot of walking and trekking, but well worth the effort. After our visit of the Dogon, we boarded a small pinnace in Mopti and navigated to the legendary forbidden city of Timbuktu. This conference presents Timbuktu as it was in 2005, before the Jihadists destroyed many of its historical monuments and buildings.

IMAGES FROM SENEGAL. Yvette and Gilles Forget lived in Senegal, West Africa from 2001-2008. In the course of their work there, they had many opportunities to visit all corners of this Sahelian country and to take many photographs. Join them as they travel the many roads and tracks of Senegal to meet its people and to photograph its wildlife, especially its birds.
